To say "freaking out" would be an overstatement, but I'm anxious about how the bad weather this week will impact our holiday sales, and I'm sure other small local businesses are feeling the same way. We reeeeeeally rely on the sales these few days before Christmas to carry us through the slower months. Check on social media to see if your favorite shops are doing any promotions to try to serve more shoppers during these blustery few days.
At Shop Five Nine, when you buy two planners, you get one free, both in-store and online. The discount applies automatically when you shop online.
I'm also doing a round of surprise packages! These are always super popular. Usually I have people venmo me for them, but this time I made a listing. You can select the amount you want to spend.
And finally, for local customers, you can use code LOCALPICKUP to skip the shipping cost. Come grab your order in-store at 6105 Maple St. after the snowstorm.
Besides shop work, I’m sort of hermited up until our next legislative session starts on January 4. Thoughts on that…
I am sooooooooo. so. so so so excited to work with Sens-Elect John Fredrickson, George Dungan, and Danielle Conrad. I really personally like them all a lot. Of course eager to get to know everyone else too. The new class is gigantic.
It’s honestly up to conservatives how difficult this session is going to be. If we can focus on normal things, it’ll be a productive session. If people prioritize bills banning or restricting abortion, attacking trans rights or targeting trans youth and their families, or any of this type of thing, I will flush the entire session immediately and directly down the toilet.
One thing I’m also not into that will probably happen is allowing tax credits/vouchers/something for private schools, which isn’t currently allowed in Nebraska but does happen in other states. I understand the arguments for this, but I will always oppose sending public money to private schools that don’t serve every student. I will also always oppose sending public money to schools that are legally allowed to discriminate against their students, staff, and faculty. I am concerned about some of my progressive colleagues who have fallen for the bullshit and will likely support this. Like, what?? Makes me need to lie down.
This is going to be two years of working to preserve the institution. We shouldn’t expect to make any gains. I would consider holding the line a great success.
The Capitol has been under construction for the last five years or so to get rid of all the asbestos, lead paint, etc. They do the construction in phases, where a quarter of the building is blocked off a time. Because of this, we don’t have access to all of the offices, and many senators have to work up in the tower instead of in an office. My staff and I will likely be in the tower for this session, and then return to a permanent office in June. We actually started in the tower in 2019, and then moved back down to a finished (but way too small) office in 2020.
I hate being in the tower! But if we go back up now, we can have a bigger office in June, so it’s probably worth it.
I’m living in these
Also in these
In 2016 I had this theory that women were wearing more roomy, stretchy, baggy, large garments because the more conservative and oppressive the culture gets politically, the more we refuse to look sexy to men. We reject the pressure to perform for the male gaze. It’s subconscious. But the way this has extended to ugly shoes for me as well is like…a degree I never expected. Give me a big ole puffy clog forever. I literally will never hurt my feet to look hot again. We don’t overturn Roe v. Wade and then expect a stiletto.
Also these. Lol. Also the super high platform Crocs.
Another thing I’m trying now is leggings with stirrups
Here’s a pic of Ash doing an impression of me. Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, and happy holidays to all!
